Volunteering roles available now

Volunteering

In 1st Aldermaston Scout Group we currently have 65 young people enjoying scouting, supported by 8 leaders and 6 executive committee members.

Why not strengthen your CV while making a real impact on the lives of young people? How much time you give is up to you, if we can get 3 new people then you’re probably only looking at 2 nights per month, and you don’t need any previous experience. We have 2 open roles, and whatever you choose, we’ll make sure you’re properly trained and supported.

Assistant Section Leader (Cubs)

This role assists the main section leader and can also stand in on the occasions when the section leader is not available. This role involves:

  • Attending section meetings and running activities
  • Some activity planning assistance (Akela does most of the planning)
  • Occasional attendance at camps and sleepovers
  • Some admin work on the Online Scout Manager system (Akela does most of this)

There is a requirement to complete the basic training, which are 4 online modules that take 3-4 hours to complete. There is also optional ongoing training available in the form of live classes, residential courses, additional online modules, 1-on-1 training and validation and group or district meetings. You will be supported by the Group Scout Leader and the Executive Committee and there is cover available from other sections when needed.

Section Assistant (Cubs, Beavers or Scouts)

This role assists the section leaders but cannot stand in on the occasions when the section leader is not available, so without cover those nights would be cancelled. This role involves attending section meetings and running activities, some activity planning (assisting the section leader) and occasional attendance at camps and sleepovers when available. This role will mainly be for cubs, but could also float to other sections if required.

Executive committee roles

There are also various roles available in the Exec team to help spread the work load.  Would you like to be part of the finance and fundraising team ?  This involves helping with the organisation of fund raising events, writing letters for grants and coming up with ideas and suggestions.  We would love to hear from you.
